Find answers to common questions about ADHD life coaching and therapy, my services, and how we can work together to help you thrive.
How do I know if I need coaching or therapy?
Great question! Please check out Therapy & Coaching (with link). If you’re still not sure, that’s completely normal - we can talk it through together in a consultation call or please complete the form here.
What is coaching?
Life coaching is a collaborative, forward-focused process that helps you clarify your goals, tap into your strengths, and develop strategies for meaningful, sustainable change. Rooted in curiosity and active listening, coaching supports you in aligning your actions with your core values so you can move forward with purpose and confidence.
How can coaching help me?
Coaching acts like a catalyst—it helps you shift stuck patterns, gain momentum, and take intentional steps toward your goals. Whether you're looking to improve focus, follow through, or emotional regulation, coaching offers structure, support, and accountability tailored to your needs.
How is coaching different from therapy?
This is one of my favorite questions—because I’m lucky enough to do both.
Therapy typically focuses on healing the past, working through emotional challenges, and addressing mental health conditions. Coaching is future-oriented. It’s about identifying what you want to change or achieve, then building the skills and strategies to get there. Many people find coaching especially helpful once they feel stable and are ready to take action toward specific goals.
Can I work with you for both therapy and coaching?
I do not provide both therapy and coaching services to the same individual at the same time, as they serve different purposes and involve different roles, ethics, and boundaries. If you're seeking both, I’m happy to help you explore what would be most supportive and refer you to trusted colleagues if needed.
Will you prescribe medication?
No. I’m a licensed clinical social worker and an ADHD life coach—neither role includes prescribing. Both therapy and coaching can help you explore whether medication is something you’d like to discuss with your doctor, and how to integrate it into a broader support plan if needed.
Do I need to have a major problem to benefit from coaching?
Not at all. Coaching isn’t just for crisis mode—it’s for anyone who wants to grow. You might want to build better systems, reduce overwhelm, improve time management, or simply gain clarity on what matters most. Coaching helps you level up, wherever you’re starting from.
Will my insurance cover coaching?
Generally, no. Coaching isn’t typically covered by insurance. However, some HSA/FSA accounts may allow funds to be used for coaching, and certain employers offer wellness stipends that can apply. It’s worth checking with your provider or HR department.
Do you offer a sliding scale or scholarships?
Not at this time, but it’s a goal I’m actively working toward for the future.
What if I can’t make it to a session?
Life happens! Just email me with at least 24 hours’ notice and we’ll reschedule. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice (or missed without notice) are subject to the full session fee.
What if I don’t have ADHD, but I relate to the challenges?
You’re not alone. Executive function (EF) struggles are common in ADHD, but they also show up with anxiety, depression, giftedness, autism, sensory processing differences, and more. My coaching is grounded in supporting EF challenges, regardless of diagnosis.
How do I choose a coach or therapist?
Look for someone whose experience, training, and energy feel like a match. Consider their approach and whether you feel seen and understood in your conversations. I always recommend scheduling consultations with more than one person so you can compare styles and find the best fit for you.
What coaching credentials should I look for?
The gold standard is an ICF (International Coaching Federation) credential, which
ensures rigorous training and ethical standards. For ADHD-specific support, affiliations with CHADD, ADDA, or ACO can be helpful indicators of relevant expertise.
Are you a licensed therapist?
Yes. I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Massachusetts with over 20 years of experience providing therapy. While my coaching work draws on my clinical background—especially in areas like emotional regulation, motivation, and behavior change—coaching is a separate, non-clinical service. If you’re looking for therapy, I’m happy to help you determine whether I’m the right fit!
How are sessions conducted?
All sessions can take place virtually via secure video call, which allows us to work together no matter where you are. For folks who are local, I am also in person at my Brookline, MA office a couple days/week. I also offer optional check-ins between sessions via email.
